President Joko Widodo hand over a 2.568 certificates of land ownership to Papua and West Papua resident
President Joko Widodo distributed a2,568 land ownership certificates to communities from Sorong, Sorong, and Sorong Selatan, West Papua.
The land ownership certificate ceremonial was done at the Aimas Convention Center, Aimas Subdistrict, Sorong District, West Papua, on Wednesday, December 20, 2017. Said the ownership of land certificates is crucial to reduce land disputes that often occur in various regions. President Widodo said that on this year, government handed around 15 million certificates for West Papua which is for the next year targeted about 40 million certificates.
Previously until 2016, only 46 million people from all Indonesian citizens who have land certificates. Within a year, the National Land Agency (Biro Pertanahan Nasional – BPN) had issued 500 thousand certificates. Government targets in 2025 that everyone should hold a land certificate and it is entirely shoulder by the agency regional office and the head office.
The Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning or the Head of the National Land Agency Sofyan A. Djalil, at the occasion, exposed that presently only 14 percent of the land has been certified. West Papua has 1,356,581 pieces of land and has been certified 190,638 fields, while 116,596 parts have not been registered.
