PRESIDENT JOKO WIDODO RECENTLY INAUGURATED THE TWO NEWLY BUILT GAS ENGINE POWER PLANT IN PAPUA
President Joko Widodo recently inaugurated a two Gas Engine Power Plants (Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Mesin Gas – PLTMG) with total capacity of 70 MW, located in Jayapura and Nabire. Along with said event, about 74 villages in Papua and West Papua connected with electricity. The power plant was built with a total investment of Rp. 1,346 trillion. The inauguration of PLTMG Nabire, conducted at Kalibobo Village, Nabire Regency, Papua, on Wednesday, December 20, 2017. The operation of these two new generators projected can make the supply of electricity in Papua, support the economic growth and for sure illuminate various corners in the region.
The operation of gas power plants in Nabire and Jayapura should answer the electricity needs in Papua with the production output of PLTMG in Nabire 20 MW and PLTMG 50 MW in Jayapura.
On this occasion, President Widodo exposed the challenge and difficulties to electrify the Papua and West Papua region, even though it is a government responsibility to continue to do that, equally distributed across the nation.
